In order to address the complexity of the Internet of Things (IoT) world, contexta realized a complete hardware and software solution based on two main components:

• contexta-net. An energy-aware datagathering system conceived specifically for situation-aware applications that need to collect data about specific contexts.

• contexta-iot. An intelligent concentrator that collects and processes all the data gathered by contexta-net making them available through Internet.

A demo-kit including a contexta-net with five NF5x, and one MB3 with charger and contexta-iot is already available.

contexta-net relies on a network architecture based on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). The network is composed of a group of devices (contexta NF5x and contexta MB3), interconnected using standard wireless technology (Wi-Fi and IEEE 802.15.4), that gather data about the user and the environment. contexta-net allows to implement data-gathering solutions in many different application areas, helping to decrease development time and to improve interoperability among existing solutions.

The infrastructural nodes NF5x are mostly battery powered and besides providing RSSI data, include motion sensors (used for improving the accuracy of tracking) and environmental sensors (e.g. ambient light, temperature, humidity, etc.). Mobile devices MB3 are also battery powered and include, at least, a complete six-degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) inertial measurement unit (IMU) that is used to track users or object movements. Mobile devices can be easily extended with further sensors if needed by the specific application. A contexta-net demo-kit with five NF5x, and one MB3 with charger is already available.

contexta-iot is a secure and intelligent platform that can be used to collect and process all the data gathered a WSN (for example contexta-net) in order to store and make it available in real-time through Internet. contexta-iot can be used for realizing contextaware components and situation-aware systems (on whatever scale it might be meaningful, from a

single elderly person in distress to an earthquake endangering millions of people).

Perceiving the environment, understanding which are the key factors in a system and their present and future meaning can really make a big difference on decision making. contexta-iot is the enabling technology for applications and products that require a pervasive, automatic and continuous situation awareness. contexta-iot is a stand-alone software component and it can be adapted to existing WSN deployments.
