Acoustically guaranteed rooms with a stunning contemporary Italian design: In 2003 the Umbria based company Boxylab Srl launched a high level modular system of soundproof structures branded BOXY. Due to its excellent acoustic performance the system was first used for advanced music applications (Recording, Broadcast, Educational sector, Home Studio), breaking out from Italy to the UK and to Germany. In the last few years it entered with great success into the industrial and medical sector.  

Boxylab Srl has various international patents on the system, and covers the entire scope, from planning, manufacturing to delivery and installation. The Company has 15 employees, and in the last three years produced an annual turnover between 1.5 and 2 MIO EUR.                     

 BOXY rooms can be installed into any space quickly and easily, indoor and outdoor. They are even available with entirely glazed walls and an extensive range of sizes. Most Of All: The patented system BOXY-B is the only structural system worldwide that offers guaranteed values of sound isolation and reverberation time certified by a European Notified Body (N°0474). 

Over time, the demands of the market have progressively pushed toward higher levels of product quality, in terms of acoustic performance and comfort, together with the need for short delivery and assembly.

In 2012 Boxylab formed the new company B-BEng Srl, a spin-off that took over all research and development of Boxylab. B-BEng currently consists of a small team of engineers whose activities are currently focused on the innovative project "Acoustics Accessible", promoted by Boxylab for the divulgation of an acoustic culture accessible to everyone.

This year 2013 B-BEng Srl presents its first product: B-ear, an exoskeleton that allows anyone to compose a sound isolating, comfortable room with good acoustic skills and in line with their personal requirements – at an extremely competitive price. This exoskeleton once again is the base of an entire system. It is available with an air-exchange system and all electrics in line with international standards. Installation and any further components can be either made/sourced by the client himself or be offered by B-BEng or third companies. There is a wide choice of potential targets, starting from musicians looking for an affordable solution, to fairs, events and industrial applications. 

The key point is that B-ear is designed to be produced and sold in large quantities, this is an attractive option for any potential investor. Furthermore, the patent on the system is a considerable potential for the development of new applications, where new investments are also needed.

B-EAR.  All the rest is simple.

The system B-EAR solves all problems that until yesterday had complicated the construction of soundproof, comfortable and acoustically valid spaces. Installation becomes quick and easy, performance data is certain, air exchange and electrics are in line with European standards and the price is more than competitive – not only for musicians.

The heart of the system is a patented, self-supporting exoskeleton, made of galvanized flat rolled steels DX51D (FeP02G) quality for bending and cold forming. Its elements are connected by bolting with M8 bolts class 8.8. It has that principally three functions: 

• B-ear gives stability to the structure from a statics point of view, 
• B-ear receives and fixes perfectly the filling material of the walls, the floor and the ceiling,
• B-ear manages  exclusively all electrics (incl. LED lighting) and the controlled air exchange system of the room.

The concept foresees a glazed PVC-door as the access to the room. In terms of width and weight this door is defined in relation to the desired level of sound isolation. With the exception of the door, no component of the system is heavier than 25 kg. 

The weight of the walls depends obviously on the choice of the material. Using plasterboard, a sheet will not weight more than 24 kg. The delivery of the B-ear moves a weight of 300 kg ca. This implicates an effect of eco sustainability, considering that all infill (between 500 kg and 1.000 kg) will be sourced at destination.

The level of soundproofing depends obviously on the choice of the infill. For example an infill set of plasterboard, weighted plasterboard and heat-related polyester fiber allows to reach the excellent performance of 38 db(A). The client explains, which soundproofing level he wishes to achieve and which materials he prefers to use, and our technicians will indicate infill sets that are in line with these requirements. 

Having all material ready on site, the installation time can be indicated in 120 minutes ca. Installation does not request outstanding skills.
